There are a couple of commercially available software programs that allow you to record anything off of your computer or the web. My favorite is Cakewalk Pyro5, it allows you to record and digitilize tapes and records as well. It also allows you to edit out silent and dead air patches and to edit your own song breaks (for instance, I usually delete the song breaks in Lazy Lightning >> Supplication, and treat it as one song. this does not eliminate any sound, just takes away the song break). Another one is All Sound Recorder XP. Both of these allow you to record and edit anything off your computer, the web, or an ouside source, i.e. tape deck or record player, in real time.
